What do work campers do?

Lynne & Ro try something new 😀

With the exception of my somewhat cryptic announcement of our summer plans to work camp here at Estes Park Campground at Mary’s Lake back on May 8th, I have spent all my blog capital since sharing the beauty and nature here in Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. No surprise, since this is one of the most beautiful areas in North America.

But that doesn’t mean we haven’t been having a great time as work campers! I just haven’t spent much time describing what we do each day and the many things we have learned. Thank goodness our fellow work camper at our sister park, Estes Park Campground at East Portal has that part covered in his very funny blog! Mark Mitchell has done a wonderful job of describing a “day in the life”, in a humorous and entertaining way, and he is gracious enough to allow me to link to his blog here so that you can learn and laugh too. 🙂

I must also admit I am jealous of his and his wife Lori’s many nicknames. 😀 You can read about those and so much more on the blog!

Go read about their experience at Mitch and Lou try something new! I guarantee you will giggle while you learn. At the bottom of each post, there is a link that allows you to go on to the next installment. Or you can follow Mark via email from his blog, as well. Happy reading!

Now there are probably as many versions of work camping as there are jobs, but Mark shares what work camping entails here at the Estes Valley Recreation District. I believe all our fellow work campers at both parks will agree that our excellent management team here, Zenda and Kay, have set the bar VERY high for any future work camping gigs we may have. The campgrounds are spotless, comfortable, scenic, and incredibly well-run. We had a full week of training before being let loose on live customers…this is unheard of in the work camping arena.

And they are fun…the district had a beginning of summer party the other night, including food, fun and even line dancing!

Here they are in action!

And then there are nights like this…among many other wonderful aspects of this job!

Thanks for joining our adventures…and visiting Mark’s blog. I hope you are inspired to get out there and see something beautiful, even if it is in your backyard!

  1. Nice! I really liked the solar light pattern. I also liked that you enjoyed it enough to capture a photo. Reaffirms that either I am not crazy for liking stuff like that and/or I am not alone in my craziness! I am really enjoying this work camping adventure. And I think I may have FINALLY overcome the issue I was having with not being able to comment. Fingers crossed…

    • Hi Kathy! Not sure what the issue was, but this comment was successful! And much appreciated too 😍 Yes, we love the light patterns so much, we now have 15 of the lights around our site. Next time we are out late I will try to capture all or many of them in a photo. And we are enjoying the work, as well as the incredible scenery and many visitors! Definitely a great decision to do this.
