Yesterday, a friend sent me a link to Glen Campbell’s final music video with the comment that she found the song comforting. I do too, but…click the link, I’ll wait.

If you are just joining the fun on our fall Anniversary ride, you can go back and read the series from the start here.
Abingdon history
Having touched the Southwestern part of Virginia on a previous motorcycle trip, and knowing the great roads that lay in store, we chose Abingdon, Virginia as the destination for the first three days of our anniversary trip. Abingdon is a beautifully preserved historic town, first settled in the mid-18th century, and known for outdoor activities, civil war history, food, and culture. It lies in a lovely valley filled with working farms, equestrian facilities, and lavish estates.
A good omen the night before our trip
My hub and I had planned a Retirement Test Ride (RTR) for September of this year, but that didn’t work out due to changes we encountered with my mother, so we decided to wait until October, when Mom had gotten settled, and take a bike trip to celebrate our 17th wedding anniversary.
This past Saturday I briefly found the old me: A motorcycle rider who is completely happy to explore the beautiful roads of our area alone, since my riding buddy works on Saturday.
Where do I begin?
Oh, how about with the change in the look of my blog? I felt the need for a cleaner, simpler look. And of course, I spent many hours playing with themes and theme options, rather than writing my Retirement Test Ride (RTR) planning posts…more on that in a bit.
I finish packing my BMW 1200GS with just the essentials for a two-night getaway and ride north into darkening skies. A fine drizzle persists as I head up into the mountains, but on this late Saturday afternoon, the sweeping curves of US 129 over Blood Mountain are mine to enjoy, nearly free of traffic. The conditions are perfect for clearing the mind, and totally focusing on the flow of the ride. My destination is a rendezvous with my love, and we arrive within minutes of each other for a quick dinner in Blairsville, Georgia, before heading further north to our stop for the night in Dillsboro, North Carolina.
My day to day routine of late has been a fog. I feel like I have been just dragging through the work day, and my other responsibilities, while simultaneously watching the weeks and months of 2014 fly by.
