Prepare to be awed! This post is a compilation of two visits to the scenic crown jewel of Rocky Mountain National Park, Trail Ridge Road (AKA US 34). The first visit was prior to Trail Ridge opening for the season when we could only drive as far west as Rainbow Curve from Estes Park. The second visit was ten days later, the day after the road opened to cover the 48 miles between Estes Park on the park’s east side and Grand Lake on the west. This is part one of (at least) two since we only made it as far as the Alpine Visitor’s center on the second visit, about 25ish miles.

Around Estes…Lily Lake and St Catherine’s Chapel
We have been fortunate to have the weekend off to rest and recreate prior to starting work at Estes Park Campground at Mary’s Lake on Tuesday, May 15th. If you have no idea what I am talking about, you may want to go read The Next Chapter before continuing here. Go ahead, I’ll wait! 😉
The next chapter…
We’ve been traveling for a while, and there has been a little mystery about what we are doing and where. Some friends, and of course our families, will already know this next chapter, but for those that do not, we are taking our retirement story one step further this summer. Here is the back story.
Leadville and the Mineral Belt Trail
While staying in the beautiful town of Buena Vista, Colorado, we ventured about 35 miles north on US 24 to the mining town of Leadville, which boasts an elevation of 10,000 feet. This town is a favorite of moto-blogger friend Ry Austin, AKA Surtch Phether @ Two Wheels To There.
Last Thursday in Taos
We have moved on to Colorado now, but I feel compelled to share our last awesome day in Taos, with our friend Dorcas, who came along to visit both Santa Fe and Taos with us. The visits to both towns were awesome, and most of the sharing was done on Instagram and Facebook, but Thursday included sights around Taos and a volume of photos that begged for a blog post. 🙂
Palo Duro Canyon
After so many years living in, and then visiting, Texas, we finally made it to Palo Duro Canyon State Park on April 15th, in the Panhandle Plains just southeast of Amarillo.
A ride in the Hill Country
Those of you who have been around here a while know that most of our adventures that involve riding, also involve internal combustion engines. Well, prepare to be amazed! 😉
Finally made it to Shiner!
I have been a Shiner Beer fan for 30+ years, back to when I lived in San Antonio and was introduced to Shiner Bock. In addition to living in San Antonio for 10 years, we have visited Texas countless times since we moved to Georgia in 1995, but it was never convenient (or a priority, I guess) to make the pilgrimage to the small town of Shiner.
The Georgia Guidestones
Years ago, a motorcycle friend told us about an odd Stonehenge-like structure in the rolling hills of Georgia near the South Carolina border. It seemed like a perfect motorcycle day ride. But we didn’t get around to doing it.
A couple of days in Vancouver, BC
Welcome back to the ‘bonus’ fourteenth (and final) installment of the Bucket List: Alaska series. If you are just joining us, you can go back to read the start of our Alaska adventure in Anchorage at this link. There will be links at the bottom of each post to take you to the next one.
